Kantar Media, a world leader in audience measurement, is acquiring Civolution’s audio watermarking unit in order to strengthen its audience measurement technologies and pursue new opportunities around second screen activation. The deal is scheduled to close in Q4. The agreement means Civolution will now focus on two key growth markets: media protection and media data intelligence. The watermarking unit will be transferred under the leadership of Jean-Michel Masson.

“We have long admired the expertise and skills of Jean-Michel and his team,” comments Richard Asquith, Global CEO, Kantar Media Audiences. “In joining Kantar Media, they will strengthen our suite of technology to measure audiences for content across all devices in all formats.” Civolution CEO Alex Terpstra adds: “The marriage of Kantar Media’s vision for the industry and our cutting-edge technology is a very strong basis for further growth.”

Civolution’s audio watermarking technology is recognised as world leading and is deployed in hundreds of TV channels worldwide to enable audience measurement and second screen synchronization.

Civolution will now focus on its NexGuard Forensic Watermarking and Teletrax TV Network Services capabilities, organised in two separate business units. The company is witnessing a significant ‘uptick’ in traction for the professional and consumer streaming and download services, and device integrations, that NexGuard Forensic Watermarking provides. Teletrax TV Network Services leverages Civolution’s broadcast monitoring infrastructure and the company says this business unit will deliver on the promise of a market where there is increased adoption of TV synced advertisements and a wide array of data triggers and broadcast analytics services.
